Gabby Stoudt ‘26 Recieves the Johnson-Peterson Research Grant Helping Conduct Summer Research

Gustavus student Gabby Stoudt ‘26 double majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology (BMB) and studio art received the Johnson-Peterson Research Grant that is helping with her current summer research project.

This summer Gabby is looking at the chemical composition of essential oils in three saliva plants, also known as sage plants. With this knowledge, she plants on testing the oils on cancer cells at the Univerisity of Minnesota to see if the oils possess any inhibitory activity against the growth of the cancer cells.

When asked why Gabby is conducting research she mentioned, “I am interested in research because I want to find answers to questions within the science community that haven’t been found yet.”

The Johnson-Peterson Grant has allowed Gabby to pursue research this summer without having to worry about the many competitive research programs out there.

“Having this experience will allow me to be competitive for future research programs or receiving grant funding from a national source. It could give me the chance to conduct research out of state” Stoudt ‘26.

Finally, with all of this hard work leaves a rewarding feeling at the end of the day knowing that Gabby is working to find answers in the science world.
